UCD from an international students perspective.
Erasmus experience in Dublin
All European university students have the possibility to participate in the Erasmus program, generally in one of the last years of their studies. If you are in doubt about whether to do an Erasmus in Ireland, in this blog I am going to tell you about my experience as a Spanish student in Dublin and why I can recommend it to you. Before taking the difficult decision to live a year away from your country in an unknown environment, many doubts arise. Will it be worth leaving my comfort zone? That was the first doubt that came to my mind. Having spent almost 6 months since I came to live in Ireland, I can say that it is the best decision I have ever made in my life. University makes you mature as a person, but if you also have to adapt to another culture totally different from yours with people from all over the world, the personal learning that you get is incredible. The society in which we live sometimes makes us tend to prejudge people because of the stereotypes we have about others either because of their race, religion, way of thinking... However, as soon as you spend a short period of time you will see how you will create a fantastic friendship with people that you would not have thought you could connect with long ago. In addition, you will see how the educational system differs from the one you have in your country. In my case, I am delighted to have had the opportunity to study at University College Dublin.
This university has great professors and a magnificent infrastructure. With the pandemic issue, they have made it very easy to record all the classes with an excellent video and audio quality. However, I recommend going in person to the classes and live the experience as a student up close. UCD has a very nice campus and at the same time has many activities that you can do. If you like sports or have other hobbies such as cinema or theater, take a look at the activities they offer and sign up for them. Changing the subject, everyone I know who has gone on Erasmus has not lacked fun. Dublin is a wonderful place where you will never get bored, its streets full of pubs and ambient music will make you have unforgettable party nights full of anecdotes to tell. Another aspect that you will love about Ireland is its nature. Ireland is a small country that you can easily travel from one coast to another. From Belfast to Cork through Galway you will find unique landscapes, many of them really famous for having been the shooting location of movies like Harry Potter or series like Game of Thrones. For all these reasons that I have been telling you in this post, I recommend 100% that you choose Dublin for your Erasmus experience that you won’t regret.
