Why I chose UCD BComm international to study.

When it came time to fill out the CAO form in sixth year, I was in a tricky spot. Because, while I knew I wanted to study business, there are dozens of business degrees to choose from in Ireland, and I didn't know which one would be the greatest fit for me. Was it better for me to specialize right away or take a general course and then specialize later?

This dilemma led me on a fascinating trip that included attending open days at several universities, chatting with past students of a variety of courses, conducting online research, and so on.

I chose UCD's Bachelor of Commerce International program because I am passionate about business and this is a well-rounded business program that covers all business areas, allowing me to obtain a full grasp of business while also allowing me to specialize later in my degree. In addition, a third of my programme comprises of a language that is studied in conjunction with the business modules, and it includes an integrated year abroad at another university in Europe or Asia, such as France, Spain, Italy, Germany or China!

A typical day in Commerce International consists of 3-4 hours of classes, for a total of 12 hours each week. During my first two years, I had a morning language lesson early in the morning around 9-11am. Followed by a couple of hours of break, a two-hour lecture for one of the business modules, another break, and a 50-minute tutorial at 4 or 5 p.m. It's fantastic to have so many breaks throughout the day since it makes you feel calmer and allows you to prepare for a class or study content directly after a lecture or go to the campus gym. Also, because there are numerous restaurants and even microwaves on campus, spending the entire day there is always quite convenient, whether you bring meals from home or buy it there. In the evenings, I occasionally attend society events such as the popular LawSoc debates or the International Student Society's culture-themed nights.

There is also an orientation week at the beginning of the year, during which your Programme Office organizes some very useful welcome talks to help you settle into university life, as well as assigning you and a few other students to a Peer Mentor who shows you around campus and shares some very useful tips. During this week, student groups organize social events all across campus so that you may get a flavor of what they do. During orientation week, I attended as many events as I could, and it was during that week that I met some of my closest friends! I can't emphasize enough how important it is to participate in everything that happens during that week; it is a great opportunity to get to meet other students! I continued to get active with the student groups that I enjoyed for the rest of my first year, and I was always meeting new people.

Finally, one of the main reasons I picked UCD to study Commerce International is because of the university itself. I wanted to be a part of the UCD community and experience college life.

The facilities on offer blew me away the first time I visited the campus. The wide number of groups and sports clubs offered on campus continues to impress me to this day. I also appreciate the diversity of the student body on campus. There are students from all walks of life studying a variety of courses, and I've enjoyed making friends from all over the world throughout my time here. Overall, I would recommend studying Commerce International at UCD to anyone who is interested in learning in a collaborative setting and has a passion for business. I've never regretted my degree choice in the previous four years, and I can't fathom studying anyplace else. Commerce at UCD has been a terrific experience for me in terms of personal development and prospects.
